Taking on an employee
often believed to be more difficult than it is. At a recent meeting with Kingston & Surbiton MP Ed Davey, Sue was pleased to learn that Ed is working to make employing much easier by bringing all the red tape in to one neat bow in one place. Moves are also being made to simplify employment laws and tribunal regulations with the “one-stop-employment-shop” also being able to give guidance and advice in words of one syllable – now that’s innovative from any politician! It was also interesting to find out that Ed Davy is responsible for regulating accounting procedures and the accounting profession, and he was interested to learn that there are some practises who just work to help the very small businesses – nice to be appreciated. Our other local MP, Chris Grayling of Epsom and Ewell, is responsible for the “off benefits and back to work” campaign and as part of that is launching “The Job Club – Pathway to Employment” at Nescot so Sue can report on that next month.
The Department of Work and Pensions has released the above document – 17 pages of it. The Pensions Act 2008 set this scheme up but this is the first basic document that has been released, setting the scheme out in words of one syllable. This is going to happen and it is going to cost every employer an increasing percentage of their staff’s salary over the years plus additional time and admin.
